Tourist vademecum: PELAGIE

Tempio dei Dioscuri

One of the characteristics of the province of Agrigento is to have its territory
limited by the Sicani mountains in the north, the Mediterranean Sea in the
south by and the Pelagie Islands Lampedusa, Linosa and the little uninhabited
Lampione, the most southern tip of the italian territory, in the Channel of Sicily.
From a strictly administrative point of view the Pelagie belong to the province
of Agrigento but viewing a map you can see that these islands are closer to the
north african coast than to Sicily. In fact Lampedusa is 120 miles far from Porto
Empedocle, while it is only 60 miles from Tunisia
